Meet the sporthorses

Good performance in the ring starts with the quality of the horse. Meet the sporthorses, the DVB Youngsters, own breeding products and sales horses of DVB. Of course, the biggest stars of the past are not left out either.

All horses at Dressage Stable Van Baalen receive the same five-star management that is tailored specifically to each horse. They come out daily, are trained by Marlies, Coby or the DVB stable riders and always get the best feed, bedding and physical supervision. In this way, they can perform to the best of their abilities.

Hall of Fame

Ferro

The imposing KWPN-approved stallion Ferro (by Ulft) and Coby enjoyed an unprecedentedly successful sporting career. When the stallion was eight years old, Coby got to ride him and they soon belonged to the absolute world top. Highlights were the Sydney Olympics, with team silver and an individual fifth place, as well as the silver team medal at the European Championships in Arnhem and the World Championships in Rome. Not only in the sport, but also in breeding Ferro is very successful.

Pasternak DVB

The Gribaldi son Pasternak DVB, bred at Dressage Stables Van Baalen, impressed at a young age with his talent at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses. This special character horse ran successfully in the Grand Prix with Coby and was at the beginning of a wonderful international career, but unfortunately died at too young an age due to a viral infection.

Inspector

Dhe KWPN-approved Inspekteur (by Darwin) was a true professor and a real family horse. He was the first breeding product of Coby’s father Jan Dorresteijn. Together with Marlies, he achieved fantastic results in youth, including EC team gold. This real character horse had many funny traits and later was the perfect schoolmaster for Marrigje van Baalen and other youth.

Habibi

With his strong movements, the Habibi bred by Marian Dorresteijn and Hennie Broekhuizen had a lot of talent for the youth tests. Whenever he was allowed into the ring, he always grew a little extra. Together with Marlies, he took team and individual gold at the European Championships in Hickstead.

Idocus

Soon after Marlies’ youth career, Idocus came on her path: the American owner Christine McCarthy offered the stallion for breeding at Team Nijhof in the Netherlands and found the right rider in Marlies. Idocus was a very sensitive horse, but once Marlies got to know him well they could read and write together, resulting in two World Cup finals and the Olympic Games in Athens.

Kigali

Kigali (by Wolfgang) began his successful career as a show jumper, becoming world champion in the five-year-olds. Kigali came to Dressuurstal Van Baalen for dressage only at the age of twelve. He was intelligent and great to work with. Coby trained him to Grand Prix and then Marlies also took place in the saddle of Kigali. Together they rode the World Cup finals in Las Vegas, among other events.

ojay

The great Ojay (by Jazz) came to DVB at a later age and it took a lot of time to gain his confidence, especially in terms of transportation. With a lot of patience and time, this all worked out well and he has proven himself in the sport under several riders. He was very talented in piaffe and passage and together with Marlies he won the silver medal at the NK dressage in 2010, behind Edward Gal and Totilas.

phoebe

The talented Phoebe (by Regazzoni) was a horse that always gave confidence in the ring and also had a very nice piaffe and passage. With her, Marlies won a medal at the NK dressage in 2011. Phoebe later had another foal that is now also running successfully in the sport.

Miciano

The elegant Miciano (by Medici) was owned by Marlies’ then trainer Johann Hinnemann. The beautiful chestnut had great talent for all Grand Prix exercises and under Marlies ran, among other things, the World Cup Final in Stockholm in 2013, became KNHS indoor champion in the Grand Prix in 2014, and achieved second place with the Dutch team in the Nations Cup at CHIO Aachen in 2014.
